Excavations conducted in 1995 revealed evidence of medieval settlement, with some finds prehistoric and Roman date. The medieval occupation included Saxo-Norman boundary ditches and a substantial stone building dating from the late thirteenth to mid-fourteenth century. Few post-medieval structure were found. Specialist reports comprise: `The pottery' by Rod Burchill (66--9); `The animal bone' by Geraldine Barber (69--70); `Environmental remains -- plant macrofossil analysis' by Kath Hunter (70--4); and `Fish bone' by Alison Locker (74). Other finds of metal, slag, worked stone, shell, and flint are noted. | |||||||||||||||
