Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Shows that a now dismembered Welsh Christian Latin memorial inscription, in twelve words and sixty-four letters, was intricately constructed in `biblical style' -- allusive, arithmetical and (except to the initiated) cryptographic. Analysis introduces this entirely new aspect of post-AD 400 Insular epigraphy. The `Idnert' memorial does not stand alone, but may be unique in its pictorial culmination. Appendices discuss `Arithmetical symmetry' (173--5) and discuss `Some other insular inscriptions in biblical style' (175--83). |
