Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The author suggests that although the names Cummertrees (near Annan) and Beltrees (near Paisley) are of debated origin, both seem linked to swift streams called Tres, with namesakes in Cornwall, Hampshire, and elsewhere in Scotland. He suggests that the name of Trevercarcou (Earlstown, near New Galloway) seems likewise to mean `homestead of the torrents'. |
