Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A wide selection of sites planned at 1:200 scale is illustrated. The prevailing social unit is small except for the 17-acre hillfort of Burnswark (which may have been preceded by a palisaded settlement of similar size). Most of the well-defended settlements are under 1 acre. The non-defensive enclosures with scooped forecourts of Tyne-Forth RB native type are also found here, but with timber instead of stone huts, for reasons not yet clear; excavation should begin with this type. Roman material may also be found in some of the hillforts which show signs of secondary use. | ||||
