Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The author questions the suggestion that Dunlavin takes its name from the dún now known as Tornant Moat, near Dunlavin town, and the resulting assumption that the present, largely eighteenth-century, town is the site of the original medieval settlement. It is argued that the `Moat' and graveyard at Tornant mark the site of the original medieval settlement, which was abandoned in the fourteenth century, and the town redeveloped on its present site some time in the sixteenth century. | |||||||||||
