SU 086705, 066677, 090692. The three long barrows (Horslip or Windmill Hill; Beckhampton Road; South Street) described were totally excavated between 1959 and 1967. They had several features in common: they were close together; built as single phase monuments; two had elaborate internal structures; and they produced no evidence of funerary function or intent. A fourth section deals with the environmental history of the area as revealed in the long barrow soils and sediments. One barrow had Beaker-period ploughing below it; another, a round barrow on top of it. Flints, pottery and faunal remains are catalogued. Au(adp) | |||||||||
