Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Analyses the position in which wrist-guards are found in burials (including continental and British examples), and concludes that they were most frequently fastened to the outside of the arm. Suggests on this basis that, rather than being simply items of functional archery equipment, wrist-guards had a symbolic purpose, particularly with regards to their use in grave assemblages. Includes catalogues of examples considered (129-140). (PP-B) | ||||
