Abstract:
Reports Neolithic and BA features from excavations carried out in advance of gravel extraction at a large multi-period cropmark enclosure. These included a circular ditched enclosure, two ring-ditches, a ditched structure, a pit circle, a cluster of stakeholes, and several pits. Some of these features contained fragments of Late Neolithic Peterborough ware and Grooved ware and EBA urns. An assemblage of Neolithic and EBA flintwork and fragments of two stone axes were also recovered. The evidence of early prehistoric activity at Wasperton is considered in the context of the Avon valley. The results of work on LBA and RB features at the site will be reported at a later date. Separately authored reports include `Neolithic and Early Bronze Age pottery' (25-34) by Ann Woodward, `The stone axes' by Philip Wise (34), and `The flint' by Lynne Bevan (34-40).
