Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Excavation on three sites produced evidence for the development of the street from 12th to 16th century. In 12th and 13th metalworkers (girdlers and smiths) were prominent. Reconstruction for relatively good quality housing (domestic cum workshop units) followed in 14th, together with a mercantile type town house. Renewal of the timber-framed buildings continued for two centuries, though some perhaps lay empty. This sequence is set against the background of the topographical, economic, and social development of the medieval town. Finds include the first medieval type series of pottery for Coventry (statistical treatment). Au (abr) | ||||||
