Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An examination of the roles, interplay and efficacy of Scheduling, planning permission constraints, English Heritage, and financial considerations in the protection and preservation of archaeological sites. Also examined is the idea of basic preservation without excavation or interpretation. The discovery and treatment of the Rose Theatre is compared to that of the Globe to illustrate potential pitfalls in these areas. Whilst the general public are held to have equal interest in the heritage resource, this interest was pronounced insufficient to warrant Scheduling of the site in a judgement against the Rose Theatre Trust. |
