This ware is now known as Black-burnished 1 or BB1, and its typology and dating are considered here with a series of type-specimens classed by shape and function, with chronological ranges given where possible. The ware competed with BB2 in NE England and central-SE Scotland, and after contraction of the military market there BB1 expanded into civilian midland and SE England. |
