Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A burnt or boiling mound was excavated in advance of quarrying at Graeanog, Clynnog, Gwynedd. Radiocarbon analysis showed that the mound had accumulated during at least two, possibly three, main periods of activity: the first in the mid-third to early second millennium, and the second and third in the late second to early first millenium. Activity in all periods was centered on pits cut into, or close to the bank of a stream; however, apart from three sherds of possibly early Bronze Age pottery, there were no finds and the excavation failed to produce any positive evidence of the site's purpose. H S Green descibes the pottery and stone finds (87) and D A Jenkins analyses the petrological composition of stones (87-8). The charcoals are examined by J B Thompson (88-90) and the soil pollen by F M Chambers (90-1). | ||||||||||||
