Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	Lines of footprints made by barefoot humans have been recorded stratified within post-glacial marine sediments at two separate locations on the present inter-tidal foreshore of the Severn Estuary: at Uskmouth and Magor Pill, near Newport. The Uskmouth footprints are in an estuarine clay overlain by peat deposits. A Mesolithic antler mattock was found in close proximity. Radiocarbon determinations from the peat indicate a terminus ante quem of 6250±80BP. Footprints from Magor Pill in a similar stratigraphic context have been dated to earlier than 5720±80BP. They are part of a body of growing evidence for later Mesolithic activity in the estuary. A E Caseldine reviews the palaeobotanical evidence (21-8) and S J Culver and J Lundquist examine the foraminifera (29-33). J R L Allen describes the formation, preservation and serial sectioning of a complete footprint at Uskmouth (39-43). The trail of footprints at Magor Pill is examined by S H R Aldhouse-Green (43-6). S H R Aldhouse-Green and A W R Whittle review the evidence for preserved hominid footprints without spatial or chronological limits (46-9).
