SH 667085. The castle's importance lies in its relatively short occupation (c 1221-95) and in the richness of its sculptural decoration. The finds discussed have come from two periods of site clearance, 1850-60 and 1949-66; they suggest a late Roman activity upon the hilltop or nearby and confirm the documented occupation by princes of Gwynedd and by Edward I's garrison. The catalogue includes imported W French wares (distribution map including Ireland) and wooden stave buckets (with comparative study). Au(adp)
