Abstract:
[SJ 2044]. Excavation was undertaken to obtain a full plan and sequence within the S and W ranges of the Cistercian abbey. Three main periods of medieval occupation were identified from early 13th century to Dissolution. Finds included a fine mid-13th century carved sandstone head. Pottery, tile, glass, small finds, organic and faunal remains are catalogued together with the previously unpublished finds from the 1851 excavation.
