Abstract:
Compares the methods of construction found in medieval houses in Shropshire and Kent. It is suggested that the distribution of cruck halls (concentrated in northern and western counties) was not due to the influence of an established building tradition, but rather the result of the relative differences in socio-economic status of the peasantry.
