Discusses the remains of a series of brick clamps discovered in the London Borough of Lewisham and excavated in 1996. Documentary research and map regression work revealed a long history of brick and tile production at New Cross, and the clamps are thought to fit the pattern emerging in the Netherlands and Britain. It is suggested that this production centre focussed on a market in south-east London and north-west Kent. An appendix reports on
