Abstract:
SE 706883; 745932. Fieldwork and excavation disclosed the sites of two glass furnaces. At Hutton Common a vessel-producing furnace had three main phases of operation, the last of which had a magnetic date late in 16th century. There was also fragmentary evidence for an auxiliary (?annealing) furnace. In Rosedale another excavated complex included a winged melting furnace similar in type and date to the Hutton example and at least two auxiliary furnaces, with vessel glass. There was only one possible documentary reference to these sites. Au(abr)
