Abstract:		 Recalls two excavations in Dartford in 1976--77 which revealed a collection of mid-eighteenth-century domestic rubbish, and a large quantity of sheep leg bones. It is suggested that a small-scale tannery existed in the mid-seventeenth century between the churchyard wall and the River Darent.
