Reports on field survey and palaeoenvironmental investigations carried out between 1990 and 1992 as part of the Bally Lough Archaeological Project. Surface collection produced a Late Meso and Neo lithics assemblage dominated by non-flint artefacts. It is suggested that the presence of imported flint indicates that the valley served as a corridor for communications and exchange. Geomorphological investigation revealed two periods of alluviation (8000--6000 bc and 2000 bc, respectively). Pollen analysis of a series of cores from the alluvial basin gives the first indications of early Holocene vegetational changes. An appendix comprises a `Barrow valley lithic inventory' (38--40). | |||||||
