Abstract:
An analysis of the finds from the north Kent foreshore between Seasalter and Swalecliffe. Argues that West Cliff and Tankerton Slopes represent parts of the original southern valley side of the river Swale, as opposed to being the result of marine erosion. Suggests that the valley north of West Cliff was occupied as late as 1300 AD, while at Swalecliffe sea erosion probably rendered the area uninhabitable from the Late Roman/Early Anglo Saxon period. Also mentions some finds, including: a Mesolithic 67mm Acheulian hand axe; a gold Gallo-Belgic ambiani coin, dated to 125--100 BC; and various ceramics.
