Abstract:
TQ 722605. Search for the original building on this site was rewarded with the discovery of a house of AD 65-120 with separate bath building. Not yet fully explored, it appears to have had a central range, originally with tessellated floors, and to have been furnished to high standards. Upon the partial destruction by fire of the baths, a corridor and additional servants' accommodation were built, with new baths slightly closer to the villa, in AD 120-80. A third bath building was erected in Period VI (AD 180-90). Of Period VII, post-290, the 1967 dig discovered only a hearth over a deposit of ashes, food bones and 4th cent pottery.
