Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
It is maintained that for ten years or thereabouts some archaeologists have been uneasy about the place of archaeology in wider society and therefore `open door' programmes on excavations and the revitalisation of museum displays have been pursued. The topics discussed include the role of prehistory and prehistorians, the reasons why they take part in these popularising activities, the need for image-making and image-enriching (be these images emblematical or mythical), the types of prehistory, the partnership between scholars and the public and, finally and briefly, a possible way forward. |
