Abstract:
Trial trench survey in advance of building work recorded three walls. Thought to be of sixteenth century date, they represent the remains of the former Minster House or Prior's Lodging which was defunct by 1884. A series of watercolours record the former buildings. Finds include thirteenth to sixteenth century floor tiles, post medieval pottery, vessel glass and clay pipes, fragments of lead window cames, and a nineteenth century German mineral water bottle of brown salt-glazed stoneware. Full scale excavation is called for.
