Abstract:
Excavations led to the recovery of a small quantity of grog tempered and Severn Valley ware pottery dating to the first century AD. No contemporary deposits were observed, and the nature of the activity represented by the assemblage is uncertain. Pottery of this date is rarely found in the hillforts of Gloucestershire, and the assemblage is the only example known so far from a hillfort in the west of the county. A description of the excavations is preceded by a survey of literature relating to Symonds Yat.
