Abstract:
Reports that excavations on the site of Gloucester's medieval Franciscan friary concentrated on examining the remains of the friary church below ground and associated burials. New light is thrown on the plan of the original thirteenth-century church as well as on the so called `Berkeley rebuild' in the early-sixteenth century. Archaeological features pre-dating the friary, principally of the Roman period, were also encountered, including Roman pottery and tile. The examination of levels post-dating the friary helped to elucidate the later history of the site as a brewery in the eighteenth century. Small quantities of eighteenth- to nineteenth-century vessel glass were recovered. Includes separately authored reports on:
