Abstract:
Investigation into enclosure BNH5, in a ceremonial landscape overlooking the river Lagan, that was rediscovered in 1855. Infill from post holes included charcoal remains which have since been dated to 3039--2503 BC making the site Late Neolithic rather than Early Bronze Age. Comparison is made between this area and the pit circle at Newgrange, particularly in view of their positions near to meanders in their respective rivers. The suggestion is that geographical features such as these may have been important in dictating ritual use of the landscape.
