The author describes the background story of a flint flake, bearing the inscription `Eoin MacNeill, Lewes Prison, 1917', in the collection of the UCD School of Archaeology. The flake is presumed to have been collected on the South Downs near Lewes and to have belonged to MacNeill, Professor of Early and Medieval Irish History at UCD during the early years of the twentieth century, during his imprisonment at Lewes Prison following the 1916 Rising. | ||||
