A special issue devoted almost entirely to the work of the OAU is introduced by its Director, David Miles. Brief summaries of their work are contributed by G Lambrick (pp 6-13) on 'Ritual and burial in the Thames Valley' (Drayton Cursus, the Dorchester complex, the Devil's Quoits henge/circle, the Rollright stones, and Barrow Hills Radley); the same author also contributes (14-18) 'Farmers and shepherds in Bronze Age and Iron Age' (Reading Business Park, Wallingford eyot, Gravelly Guy at Stanton Harcourt); D Miles & Simon Palmer (19-23) on 'Claydon Pike and Thornhill Farm' (middle Iron Age farmsteads, later ranches, then Romanized settlements, hay production, and a villa; also a tile depot at Somerford Keynes); Tim Allen (24-7) on 'Abingdon', where was an extensive Iron Age settlement (?oppidum), dense RB occupation, a med cemetery, convent ditch and wooden bridge, Civil War cemetery); and B Durham (28-33) on 'The city of Oxford' (BA barrows, St Frideswide's monastery, Saxon rampart and wall, St Michael's at Northgate, Norman piers under Folly Bridge, Roger of Cumnor's house, St John's Hospital under Magdalen College, and a Real Tennis court).
