Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Proposes a two-fold economic division of the Neolithic in Britain: Earlier, with a pioneering/adaptive phase early in 4th millennium bc, developing into intense agricultural activity until a standstill occurred in mid-3rd; Later, beginning in later 3rd millennium with a recovery lasting into mid-2nd. The Neolithic ends, not with the introduction of metallurgy or Beakers, but with a greater intensification and organization of land use in mid-2nd millennium bc. Regional differences are of course recognizable, and for the Earlier period at least the important problem of scale must now be tackled. | |||
