Excavation of a denuded barrow revealed a three-phase construction: stake circle with four burials including a beaker bowl and a wooden coffin with food vessel; flint cairn with wooden cist burial outside it; large turf mound with retaining stake circle, miniature tree-trunk coffin and two food vessel cremations. Pollen preserved in the clay of this site gave valuable evidence of the surrounding chalkland agriculture. | ||||||||||||
