Reports 1994 work on a site also recorded in 1862 (Gentleman's Magazine) as substantial stone walls, tessellated floors, and a hypocaust. Recent work uncovered backfill from the nineteenth-century trenches, but only fragments of the structure. Pottery dating from the second to fourth centuries was found. A substantial ditch may pre-date the building indicating earlier activity. `The worked flint and chert' are detailed by Peter S Bellamy (121), `The pottery'by Rachael Seager Smith (129--31) is also noted. | |||||||
