Abstract:
Note on a fragment of carved limestone, currently incorporated in a fireplace surround at 43 Chilkwell Street, Glastonbury but previously located in the garden of the property and before that comprising part of the rubble filling of an interior wall of the building. The fragment in described in detail and compared with a similar fragment currently at Glastonbury Abbey Museum. On the basis of the type of stone, the style and iconography of the decoration and the comparative evidence the author suggests that both stones originated in Glastonbury Abbey, probably from the same or similar architectural features.
