Abstract:
Report on excavations in the historic village of Bleadon, which revealed significant late prehistoric and medieval evidence. A series of pits revealed a phase of Middle Iron Age activity culminating in the burial of two crouched inhumations in reused pits during the Late Iron Age. Carbonised cereal grains dating to the Late Saxon period evinced cultivation in the vicinity. A series of tenement ditches, and stratified soil deposits and cobbled yard surfaces, indicated activity during the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. These were subsequently incorporated into a single large post-medieval enclosure occupied by the modern farm.
