Abstract:
An evaluation trench excavated on the proposed site of a new house exposed evidence of several medieval boundary ditches and a pit. It is suggested that the ditches indicate boundary lines that shifted and were redefined over time. Pottery from the features represented a range of cooking pots of 14th century date. This material could have derived from the abandonment of nearby steadings, with the consistent date perhaps illustrating the calamitous effects of the Black Death in 1348 upon a previously thriving village.
