Abstract:		 Report on the excavation in 1959 of an early medieval settlement at Lawrence Field near Hathersage, Derbyshire, based on the author's own records, much of the archive of the excavation and many of the artefacts recovered having subsequently been lost. The site comprised two medieval longhouses, the larger one opening onto a courtyard surrounded by an enclosing bank. Finds included a large number of pottery sherds, three flat quern fragments and some lead and copper pieces. A small lead bole located to the southwest of the enclosure was also excavated.
