Abstract:
Numerous samples were tested to see whether criteria could be established to identify 'Colchester' samian more certainly. Results were also compared with those from visual examination. Some 'Colchester' samples clustered with those from Sinzig, and may be actual imports thence; more work, eg on Sinzig clays, may help clarify the matter. However, there is strong evidence of some actual manufacture at Colchester, and confirmation of the lack of success there.
