Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A symposium-review of the first volume of the official publication (British Museum) of the Sutton Hoo ship-burial. Martin Biddle introduces this 'outstanding contribution to Anglo-Saxon studies'. D M Metcalf discusses the sections on coins and the date of the burial, while R I Page treats the identity problem and F L Warren and J M Cameron discuss that of the 'cenotaph'. The report on the ship itself is considered by A L Binns, and aspects of the treasure trove inquest by Charles Sparrow. Summing up, Biddle stresses how little is still known about Sutton Hoo in the absence of further excavation at the site itself and at the Rendlesham settlement. See also 7815178. | ||||
