Abstract:
The concept of monumentality, it is argued, has only been considered briefly in IA studies. Hence hillforts are largely seen as having had only a defensive role. It is now proposed that the scale of ramparts suggests that they were intended to be a symbol legitimising the elite. The purpose of the computer modelling in this paper is to offer simple visions of the hillfort and the promontory on which it stands.
