Abstract:
Two nearby sites in central Swansea, both adjacent to a known medieval structure and unaffected by later disturbances, were excavated. Area one provided evidence for a walled garden, behind which ran an unmetalled alleyway; in the post medieval period a series of linked tanks (interpreted as part of a brewery, stood on the site.) Area two was more complex with traces of walls, yards, an ornamental pavement made from millstones and pebbles overlying medieval floors, walls and occupation debris. The possible location of a medieval hospitium, known to have stood hereabout, is also discussed. Finds of medieval and post medieval pottery, iron and bone work are described.
