Abstract:
This report mainly covers the excavation of the second of two adjacent ringforts located on a spur of the Kilworth hills that overlook the Blackwater valley. The work undertaken at Lisleagh II between 1989 and 1993 revealed part of the defences and the interior. Two phases of defences were identified -- the first comprising a bank and ditch (including an entrance), and the second a ditch and palisade. Interior structures included four roundhouses and a souterrain. The results of Lisleagh I are discussed in detail elsewhere (see 88/1933), but the present report also compares the findings from both sites.
