Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The survey and excavation on Pen-y-fan and Corn-du were undertaken in response to severe visitor erosion on the peaks resulting the rapid destruction of the cairns. Both monuments proved to have been robbed but protected a buried land surface and in situ peat deposits with remarkable organic preservation. Analysis of this peat resource, plus cores from elsewhere in the vicinity, has allowed a reconstruction of past environments from the last glaciation and has enabled the plants to be placed in their contemporary environments. Includes worked wood by Caroline Earwood (16--9), the copper alloy artefacts by David Coombs (19--20), the insect remains by Mark Robinson (27--30), the plant macrofossil evidence by Astrid E Caseldine & Catherine J Barrow (30--40) and the palaeoenvironmental analysis of peat samples by F M Chambers & J G A Lageard (45--71). | ||
