Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An examination of calcite-tempered ware from the Romano-British sites of Hills Flats, Oldbury Flats and Magor Pill, including pre-Roman material which is present as a significant element at Magor Pill and in smaller quantities at the other sites. The vessels are mainly plain jars or bowls but include vessels ornamented in the Glastonbury style. The pottery is of a type widely distributed at littoral sites on and around the inner Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary, its range being almost identical with the western part of the spread of Dobunnic coins. The author describes the sites, all of which are estuarine alluvial as opposed to dryland contexts; provides petrographic evidence; and reviews the distribution of the ware and the possible implications of the evidence described. | |||||||||||
