Abstract:
[SS 6593] The pottery was found in a double-shafted garderobe and pit in the castle. Evidence indicates this filling to be of one short-lived period of use. The pottery comprises sgraffito plates attributed to N Devon, gravel-tempered wares from the same source, and a local ware in a thin buff fabric. The discussion draws parallels with Bristol and with Jamestown Virginia, and concludes a date range of c AD 1650-1670. K J B
