Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports optical microscopy, radiography and x-ray fluorescence analysis of the 'dies', and discusses their possible significance. Suggests that the first, allegedly found in Boulogne, may indicate that Allectus controlled the British army in Gaul during the first months of 293 (to which period the die is dated). Argues that the second (which is without provenance, and of extremely fragile construction) was probably used to manufacture moulds from which to cast counterfeit coins. (PP-B) | |
