Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Excavations revealed three main phases of activity, Neolithic, Bronze Age and Anglo-Saxon, the latter period producing evidence of metal-working including crucible sherds, slag and fired clay. Justine Bayley reports on the `Crucible fragments' (104--5), and the calcined bone associated with these finds is described as is the fuel ash/cremation slag indicative of bronze or iron meltings. The excavation and air photograph evidence is inconclusive, but it is likely that the site saw sporadic occupation and metal-working activity, perhaps linked with the adjacent royal palace site.
