The many and complex landscape changes that have occurred here in the last millennium are reviewed. This period is examined using palaeoenvironmental techniques which are allied to a secure and precise timescale. Important landscape changes which are not generally detectable from other sources are identified -- these include the impact of medieval sheep-ranching, the impact of the 'Little Ice Age' and the more recent loss of biodiversity. | ||
