Close analysis of the composition, location, and siting of barrows and cairns in areas where no pollen analysis has been done can supplement the study of the vegetational record. There is some evidence for success of arable in Upper Weardale in Neo-BA times. Mixtures of field clearance heaps and burial sites are likely, and some barrows were probably boundary markers. | ||||||
