Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Identifies some inconsistency between Robinson's reconstruction of the shoulders of the segmented breastplate and the excavated evidence. Observing the medieval habit of wearing a padded tunic (aketon) beneath armour, and referring to a garment called thoracomachus in the fourth-century text De rebus bellicis, it is argued that the lorica segmentata was intended to be worn with shoulder pads. | ||
