Abstract:
Reports the analysis of some medieval and post-medieval brasses. One of these brasses featured a clay inlay coloured with `bone black' pigment. The metal analysis showed the compositions to be broadly similar to previously examined examples. One of the brasses, made c. 1530, could have been manufactured using zinc; if so it would be the earliest example so far identified in Europe. Includes an:
